Do you know your JAWS trailblazers? This year's Legacy Fund luncheon honors JAWS pioneers Eileen Shanahan, Joan Cook and Kay Mills, whose reporting and activism changed attitudes about women and minorities, and helped end sexist and racist practices that had marginalized them in almost all aspects of life. Shanahan and Cook were named plaintiffs in the landmark class-action lawsuit against The New York Times. Mills and Shanahan developed beats in the early 1970s on the fledgling women’s political movement - as did Legacy Luncheon speaker Peggy Simpson, who also was a named plaintiff in the class-action lawsuit against the Associated Press.
