Lauren M. Whaley is honored to be the current president of JAWS. Thanks to KC Cole, she was a JAWS fellow in 2010 and joined the board the next year. While not working on JAWS, she works full-time as a multimedia journalist producing video, radio, photography, multimedia and print stories for newspapers and NPR affiliates around California. She covers health policy issues ranging from pregnancy and childbirth to mental illness and access to care. Her work has appeared on KQED Public Radio and Southern California Public Radio as well as in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and other California newspapers. Lauren worked as a writer in Jackson, Wyoming before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a master's degree in specialized science journalism at USC's Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism. Before that, she earned a bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College and spent summers in her early 20s taking high school girls on Arctic canoe expeditions. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and baby son.
