Nancy Day

Nancy Day is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in major newspapers and national magazines. An honors graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana, she earned her master’s degree in communication from Stanford University. She was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and a Fulbright Lecturer in the Russian Federation. From 2003 to 2014, she chaired the Journalism Department at Columbia College Chicago, known for its diversity across the curriculum, faculty, staff and student body. Nancy co-founded Columbia Links, a news literacy, leadership and journalism skills-building program for Chicago high school students. Previously, she was an associate professor at Boston University. Her writing and research interests include women and leadership and ethics in journalism. Her studies at Harvard centered on the history of and remedies for discrimination against women and people of color. At the end of May, she stepped down as chair and began a one-year sabbatical.
