Entertainment and Lifestyle Editor
Mary Milliken is the U.S. Media Editor for Reuters, based in Los Angeles, and is responsible for the agency’s entertainment, lifestyle and sports news. After a 26-year career abroad that took her to Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina, she moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to become West Coast Bureau Chief and then to Washington, D.C. in 2011, where she was also Bureau Chief, leading a team of 80 Reuters journalists. Upon her return to Los Angeles, she became Entertainment Editor and found a niche beat in the diversity of Hollywood. She was one of the first journalists to interview Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs on the diversity challenge and followed up with an in-depth look at the under-representation of women in visual effects after seeing all of the Academy’s Sci-Tech awards this year go to 52 men. Mary recently took over off-field sports coverage for Reuters, in time to cover the NFL domestic violence scandal and the racist remarks that prompted a change in the ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. She is a graduate of the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism at Indiana University, Bloomington, and speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
