JAWS Board member Sarah Pollock heads the journalism program at Mills College in Oakland, California. She enjoys mentoring and being mentored by younger women (and she’s always willing to be the idiot in the room in order to understand new ideas and learn new skills). She has been senior editor at Mother Jones and editor in chief at Pacific Discovery, the natural history magazine of the California Academy of Sciences. Earlier, she was features editor at the Oakland Tribune and a staff writer at Newsday and the Hartford Courant. Her particular interests include literature, the environment, and women’s issues. When she’s not reading, writing or teaching, she spends her time chauffeuring her teenage daughter around in order to catch as many conversations about the meaning of life as possible.
